‘Election Bill on Citizens’: Rahul Gandhi Reacts to Record LPG Price Increase
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has strongly criticized the recent surge in commercial LPG cylinder prices, calling it a post-election burden on citizens. In a social media statement, Gandhi said that the “heat of inflation” was inevitable after elections and has now begun to impact everyday life. He pointed out that commercial gas cylinders have become ₹993 more expensive in a single day — marking what he described as the largest one-day price hike. According to Gandhi, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has increased by ₹1,380 since February, reflecting an 81% rise within just three months. He termed this surge as the “election bill” that citizens are now being forced to pay. The Congress leader emphasized that the impact will not be limited to businesses alone. Small establishments such as tea stalls, dhabas, hotels, bakeries, and sweet shops are expected to pass on the increased costs to consumers, thereby affecting food prices across the board. Gandhi further warned that this could be followed by additional hikes in petrol and diesel prices, potentially intensifying inflationary pressure on households. The sharp rise in fuel and cooking gas prices has once again brought the issue of inflation into the national spotlight, with political reactions intensifying across party lines.
