Historic Double: Gulveer Singh Creates History with 5000m Bronze at CWG 2026

Indian distance runner Gulveer Singh scripted history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by clinching the Bronze medal in the Men's 5000m final, becoming the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two individual medals in a single Commonwealth Games edition.

The 28-year-old Indian Army Naib Subedar clocked 13:24.95 to finish third after a sensational final-lap sprint. Gulveer edged Kenya's Cornelius Kemboi by just 0.04 seconds in a dramatic photo finish at Scotstoun Stadium.

Earlier in the Games, Gulveer had won Silver in the Men's 10,000m, making his Glasgow campaign one of the finest performances ever by an Indian distance runner at the Commonwealth Games.
Kenya's Mathew Kipsang claimed the Gold medal with a time of 13:23.61, while Australia's Ky Robinson secured Silver in 13:24.70. Gulveer's remarkable late surge from fifth place on the final lap ensured India another memorable medal in athletics.
