CWG 2026: Narender Berwal Claims Silver as India Ends Historic Boxing Campaign

Indian boxer Narender Berwal secured the Silver Medal in the men's +90kg (Super Heavyweight) category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after finishing runner-up in the gold medal bout against England's Damar Thomas.

Berwal went down 0-5 by unanimous decision in the final after three competitive rounds. Thomas controlled the contest with sharp jabs, effective footwork and disciplined defence, while the Indian boxer continued to press forward in search of powerful scoring punches.

Gold Medal Bout

The opening round saw Thomas dictate the pace with accurate long-range combinations, preventing Berwal from landing clean counters. In the second and third rounds, Berwal increased the pressure with aggressive attacks and heavy hooks, but Thomas maintained his composure and consistently landed scoring blows to earn a unanimous verdict from all five judges.

Road to the Final

Berwal enjoyed an impressive run to the championship bout.
Quarter-final: Defeated Michael Sako (Samoa) 3-2 (Split Decision)
Semi-final: Defeated Nigel Paul (Trinidad & Tobago) 5-0 (Unanimous Decision)
Final: Lost to Damar Thomas (England) 0-5 (Unanimous Decision)
