Gyanesh Kumar Hails Record-Breaking Voter Turnout in West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026

CEC Gyanesh Kumar has lauded the people of West Bengal for achieving a historic milestone in democratic participation during the 2026 Assembly Elections, stating that the state recorded the highest-ever voter turnout in both Phase I and Phase II since Independence.

Describing the elections as a celebration of democracy, the Chief Election Commissioner remarked, “Chunav ka Parv, Paschim Bengal ka Garv,” emphasizing that the overwhelming participation reflects the deep-rooted democratic spirit of the people.

In a massive display of democratic fervor, West Bengal has recorded an approximate 91.41% voter turnout in the second and final phase of the 2026 Assembly Elections. This follows an equally staggering Phase 1 turnout, signaling one of the most highly engaged elections in the state’s post-Independence history.

The polling process, conducted across 142 constituencies, saw extensive security arrangements, including deployment of central forces to ensure smooth and peaceful voting. Despite sporadic reports of tension in isolated areas, the overall process remained largely orderly and efficient.

Political analysts suggest that such a massive turnout could play a decisive role in determining the electoral outcome, reflecting strong public engagement and heightened political awareness across both urban and rural regions.

With voting now concluded, attention shifts to the counting day, which is expected to deliver a crucial verdict on the political landscape of West Bengal.
