The 23-year-old lifter from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, registered an impressive total lift of 199kg (88kg Snatch + 111kg Clean & Jerk), setting a new personal best in the 53kg category and earning India's fifth medal of the Games.
Strong Start in the Snatch
Yadav opened confidently with a successful 82kg lift before clearing 85kg and finishing the Snatch phase with 88kg on her final attempt. She ended the opening discipline in second place behind Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih, who led the field with a 93kg lift.
Excellent Finish in Clean & Jerk
In the Clean & Jerk, Yadav maintained her consistency by successfully lifting 103kg, 107kg, and finally 111kg, securing the silver medal with a combined total of 199kg.
Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih claimed the gold medal with a total lift of 206kg, while Canada's Rebeka Groulx secured the bronze medal with 178kg.
India's Weightlifting Success Continues
Yadav's silver further highlights India's impressive start in the weightlifting competition at Glasgow 2026. She joins fellow Indian medallists Mirabai Chanu (Gold), Rishikanta Singh (Silver), and Raja Muthupandi (Silver) in delivering strong performances for the national contingent.
A Rising Star
Gyaneshwari Yadav first emerged on the international stage by winning three silver medals in the 49kg category at the 2022 IWF Junior World Championships in Greece. Earlier this year, she recorded a then-personal best total of 194kg at the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships in Gandhinagar.
Her 199kg effort in Glasgow now stands as a new personal best in the women's 53kg division and marks another significant milestone in the young lifter's rapidly rising career.
