Harry Kane: England Missing the Final Piece

England captain Harry Kane admitted his side appears to be missing a crucial "final piece" after suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final.

England took the lead and looked on course for a place in the final, but Argentina produced a spirited comeback with two late goals to book their spot in Sunday's showpiece. The defeat leaves England once again falling short at the final hurdle in a major tournament.

Reflecting on another painful exit, Kane said England have been close to success in the last four or five major tournaments but still lack the missing ingredient needed to turn strong performances into silverware.

The experienced striker acknowledged the disappointment while insisting the squad must learn from the setback and remain focused on finishing the tournament strongly in the third-place playoff.

England, under Thomas Tuchel, have enjoyed another impressive World Cup campaign, but the semi-final loss extends their wait for a major international trophy. They will now face France in the third-place playoff, while Argentina prepare for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain.
