In a historic political development, Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold the office since Independence.
Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari at a grand ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, chief ministers of NDA-ruled states and senior BJP leaders.

Adhikari’s appointment is being seen as the beginning of a new chapter for West Bengal, with expectations of accelerated development, governance reforms, and closer coordination between the state and the Centre.

The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state.
The formation of the BJP government is also being linked to the broader vision of “Sonar Bangla,” aimed at ushering in growth, stability, and prosperity for the people of the state.
