"House Runs by Rules": Birla After No-Confidence Victory

By Editorial Team 👁 56
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla firmly defended his conduct after a no-confidence motion against him was decisively defeated following a 12-hour debate. "I've ensured every MP gets to speak while maintaining House rules," he asserted in his first post-vote remarks. Taking aim at LoP Rahul Gandhi, Birla clarified: "Some believe the Leader of Opposition stands above the House and can speak on any subject. No one has such special privilege—the House functions by its rules." He noted even PM and ministers must give notice for statements. Opposition accused Birla of partisanship over Budget session disputes and suspension of 8 Congress MPs, leading to a 118-MP removal notice. Birla rejected claims, reaffirming his "impartiality, discipline, balance and rule-based" approach.
