Piyush Goyal: India-Japan Partnership Can Drive Next-Gen Growth

Tokyo: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a high-level roundtable with the Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) in Tokyo to explore new opportunities for strengthening the India-Japan economic partnership.

The meeting was co-chaired by Keidanren Committee on South Asia members, including Tatsuo Yasunaga, Hironori Kamezawa and Yuji Fukasawa, with Indian business leaders and industry representatives also participating.

The discussions come as India and Japan mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, while Keidanren celebrates 80 years of contribution to Japan’s business ecosystem.

Goyal highlighted India’s strong economic growth and expanding investment landscape, along with the outcomes of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling the number of Japanese companies operating in India and attracting ¥10 trillion in Japanese investment over the coming decade.

The Union Minister invited Japanese businesses to deepen their participation in key sectors including manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and innovation.

He said stronger Japanese engagement would help expand India’s manufacturing capabilities, strengthen resilient supply chains and position the country as a competitive base for global exports.

The latest discussions underline the growing strategic and economic importance of India-Japan cooperation, with both countries looking to build a stronger, technology-driven and investment-led partnership.
