Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced that India and the Maldives are entering a new phase of economic cooperation following high-level discussions with Maldives' Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Goyal said the talks focused on enhancing bilateral trade and investment as the two nations celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and advancing negotiations on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The ministers also agreed to deepen collaboration in several priority sectors, including tourism, startups, digital payments, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and trade.

The renewed engagement is expected to unlock new business opportunities, strengthen economic connectivity, and further reinforce the longstanding partnership between India and the Maldives.
