Following high-level talks in New Delhi on Thursday, PM Modi said both countries share democratic values and respect for the rule of law. He reaffirmed India's support for meaningful efforts to bring peace to Ukraine and West Asia.
Announcing the agreement, Modi invited Polish companies to participate in co-development and co-production initiatives with India across strategic sectors, including defence, space and nuclear energy. The two countries will also explore new partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification, leveraging Polish expertise.
Historical Ties Strengthen India-Poland Partnership
Highlighting the historical and humanitarian foundations of bilateral relations, PM Modi recalled how the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur sheltered thousands of Polish children and families in India during World War II.
He also acknowledged Poland's support in facilitating the safe return of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022, describing the relationship as one rooted in shared humanity and compassion.
Economic Cooperation and India-EU FTA
Modi noted that India and Poland are emerging as important centres of growth, technology and innovation despite global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
He said the growing economic strength of both countries presents fresh opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, once it enters into force, is expected to create additional opportunities for Indian exports to Poland, particularly in machinery, chemicals, plastics and engineering goods.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is on a three-day visit to India, aimed at strengthening bilateral engagement and advancing cooperation across strategic and economic sectors.
The latest agreements mark a significant step towards expanding the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, with defence, advanced technology, energy and trade emerging as key pillars of future cooperation.
