Indian Shooting Legend Jaspal Rana Passes Away at 49
Indian shooting fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the demise of legendary shooter and coach Jaspal Rana at the age of 49. According to National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Rana passed away at a Delhi hospital on Thursday night after suffering medical complications.
Rana had recently fallen ill while returning with the Indian contingent from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany. Upon arrival in New Delhi, he was immediately hospitalized and underwent a medical procedure, including the placement of a stent. Despite medical efforts, the celebrated shooter and coach could not recover.
One of India's greatest shooting icons, Rana enjoyed a stellar competitive career, winning multiple international medals, including Asian Games gold medals and numerous Commonwealth Games titles. He later transitioned into coaching and played a crucial role in shaping the careers of several top Indian shooters, including Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker.
Rana's contributions to Indian shooting earned him some of the country's highest sporting honours, including the Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, and Dronacharya Award. His passing marks the end of an era for Indian shooting, leaving behind a legacy that inspired generations of athletes.
The Indian sports community, fellow athletes, and fans across the nation have expressed their condolences, remembering Rana not only as a champion shooter but also as a mentor who helped elevate Indian shooting on the global stage.
