Former Panihati Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh has been arrested in Odisha in connection with allegations surrounding the hurried and allegedly irregular cremation of the young doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to police sources, the arrest followed a fresh complaint filed by the victim's father, which has prompted a new investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cremation.

FIR Filed at Khardaha Police Station

An FIR was reportedly registered at Khardaha Police Station in North 24 Parganas on Monday following a complaint by the deceased doctor's father.

The complaint reportedly named Nirmal Ghosh and two other individuals in connection with alleged irregularities surrounding the cremation.

Following the registration of the FIR, police initiated a fresh investigation and began efforts to trace the former MLA.

Nirmal Ghosh Allegedly Went to Odisha

Police sources claimed that Ghosh went into hiding in neighbouring Odisha after the FIR was registered.
According to the sources, he allegedly used a new SIM card in an attempt to avoid detection while remaining in contact with a small number of associates.

Investigators reportedly tracked the mobile tower location associated with his movements and subsequently identified his whereabouts.

Arrest From Hotel Near Puri

Based on information gathered during the investigation, a police team reportedly launched an operation in Odisha.

At around 9 am on Thursday, police allegedly raided a hotel near Puri and arrested Ghosh from the premises.

The arrest is expected to bring renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the cremation and the allegations made by the deceased doctor's family.

Allegations Surrounding the Cremation

The parents of the young doctor had previously raised questions over the manner in which the cremation was conducted.

According to the allegations, the local administration hurried the cremation at the Natagarh Kadamtala crematorium under Ghola Police Station.

Questions have also been raised over the alleged involvement of Ghosh and the two other individuals named in the complaint.

The circumstances surrounding the cremation are now part of the fresh police investigation.

Cremation Fee Allegedly Waived

Another issue under investigation is the reported waiver of the prescribed cremation fee.

According to the allegations, the family was not required to pay the usual charges for the cremation.
Investigators are examining the circumstances under which the fee was allegedly waived and whether any rules or procedures were violated.

Allegations of Preferential Treatment

According to allegations raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the cremation involved serious irregularities.

The Chief Minister alleged that the body was third in the queue at the crematorium but was nevertheless cremated ahead of others in a hurried manner.

He also alleged that the family was not required to pay the prescribed cremation charges.

These claims are now part of the broader controversy surrounding the cremation and the alleged role of individuals with political or administrative influence.

Three Individuals Named in Allegations

The Chief Minister had named Nirmal Ghosh, Somnath Dey and Sanjib Mukhopadhyay as the three individuals allegedly connected to the episode.

The latest arrest has placed renewed focus on their alleged roles and on the circumstances in which the cremation was organised.

However, the allegations remain subject to investigation, and the final facts will depend on the findings of the police and subsequent legal proceedings.

Fresh Investigation Underway

The police have begun a fresh investigation following the FIR filed by the deceased doctor's father.

Investigators are expected to examine the sequence of events surrounding the cremation, the involvement of the individuals named in the complaint, the alleged waiver of cremation charges and other circumstances highlighted by the family and political leaders.

Investigation to Establish the Facts

The Nirmal Ghosh arrest is likely to become a significant development in the continuing legal scrutiny surrounding the RG Kar case.

Authorities will now investigate the allegations and establish whether any procedures were violated during the cremation.

The accused will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the legal process, while investigators continue to gather evidence.

RG Kar Case Continues to Draw Attention

The alleged rape and murder of the young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital had triggered widespread public outrage and protests.

The circumstances surrounding the subsequent cremation have now emerged as another contentious aspect of the case.

With the arrest of the former TMC MLA in Odisha, attention has once again shifted to the events that took place after the doctor's death and the questions raised by her family.

Police are expected to continue questioning the accused and examine available evidence relating to the cremation.

The investigation will also seek to establish the roles, if any, of the other individuals named in the FIR and the allegations raised by the deceased doctor's family.

The court proceedings following the arrest will determine the next legal steps in the case.

The Nirmal Ghosh arrest in Odisha marks a fresh development in the investigation into allegations surrounding the cremation of the RG Kar doctor.

While the complaint and subsequent allegations have raised questions about the manner in which the cremation was conducted, the investigation is still underway. The police inquiry and judicial proceedings will be crucial in determining the facts and establishing responsibility, if any.
