India’s Ambitious Goal: Sambit Patra on PM Modi’s Vision
KT- Sambit Patra

India’s ambitious goal of becoming a stronger, more developed and globally competitive nation was highlighted by BJP MP Sambit Patra, who recalled how Indians once looked at infrastructure and development in foreign countries and wondered why similar progress could not be achieved at home.

Speaking about India’s development journey, Patra said that during his youth, access to foreign travel was limited for many Indians. Images of roads, bridges, trains and modern infrastructure in countries such as the United States were largely seen through television programmes and Hollywood films.

According to Patra, those images often raised a basic question among young Indians: why could India not achieve a similar level of development?

Sambit Patra Highlights India’s Development Aspirations

Patra said the country has moved considerably forward over the years, with international travel becoming more accessible and India itself witnessing major changes in infrastructure and technology.

He recalled the aspirations that many Indians had when they saw modern infrastructure abroad.
The BJP leader said the country should not remain satisfied with comparing itself with other nations.

Instead, India should establish its own ambitious development targets and work towards achieving them.

According to Patra, India needs a national vision that inspires citizens to believe that the country can create world-class infrastructure, industries, technology and opportunities domestically.

From the ‘American Dream’ to an Indian Dream

A key theme of Patra’s remarks was the idea that India should develop an equally ambitious national aspiration.

He questioned why the concept of a “Great American Dream” should be associated only with the United States and argued that India too can have a larger national dream.

For decades, many Indians associated advanced infrastructure and economic opportunities with developed Western countries. Patra suggested that India's development journey should now be about creating comparable, and eventually even more ambitious, opportunities within the country.

The idea of an India’s ambitious goal therefore goes beyond individual infrastructure projects. It represents a broader aspiration for economic growth, technological advancement and improved quality of life.

PM Modi’s Independence Day Vision

Patra referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address from the Red Fort on August 15, 2026, saying that the Prime Minister placed a major national target before the country.

According to Patra, the vision presented by the Prime Minister is intended to give India a clear long-term direction.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party would explain the details of this vision over the following four to five days so that citizens could understand the objectives and the finer aspects of the proposed national development agenda.
