Khudiram Bose Memorial: ₹5 Crore Allocated for Development in Keshpur

Khudiram Bose Keshpur development received a major boost on Tuesday, with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announcing an initial allocation of ₹5 crore for the development of the revolutionary freedom fighter's ancestral site at Mohobani in Keshpur, West Midnapore.

The announcement was made during a programme organised to commemorate Khudiram Bose's death anniversary at his birthplace. The proposed development plan includes a museum, gallery, laser show and guest house dedicated to preserving the revolutionary leader's legacy.

The Chief Minister also directed the West Midnapore Superintendent of Police to examine old cases allegedly filed against BJP workers and supporters who, according to him, faced legal action for raising pro-Narendra Modi slogans.

₹5 Crore for Khudiram Bose Memorial Development

Speaking at Mohobani, Adhikari announced that ₹5 crore would initially be allocated to the Mohobani Development Board for projects associated with Khudiram Bose's memory.

The proposed infrastructure will include:

A museum dedicated to Khudiram Bose

A dedicated gallery

A laser show highlighting his life and contribution

A guest house administration

Other facilities based on the development plan prepared by the district administration

The Chief Minister said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would first be prepared before the projects are taken forward.

Work Expected to Begin After Tender Process

According to Adhikari, the tender process is expected to be completed during the monsoon period, with full-scale construction work targeted from October.

He expressed the hope that significant progress would be visible by the following year.

The Chief Minister also indicated that the initial ₹5 crore allocation may not be sufficient to complete the entire development plan. However, he said additional funding would not be allowed to become a barrier to the project.

Amit Shah's Call Mentioned During Keshpur Programme

During his speech, Adhikari said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had contacted him a few days earlier regarding the poor condition of Khudiram Bose's ancestral property.

According to the Chief Minister, Shah asked whether the state government had plans to develop and preserve the historic site.

Adhikari said he informed Shah that he was scheduled to visit Mohobani on August 11 and already had plans for development work at the site.
The Chief Minister thanked Shah for drawing attention to the condition of the revolutionary's ancestral home and for encouraging the development project.

Khudiram Bose's Legacy to Get a New Memorial Complex

The Khudiram Bose Keshpur development project is intended to create a larger memorial and visitor infrastructure around the revolutionary freedom fighter's birthplace.

The planned museum and gallery are expected to showcase aspects of Bose's life and his role in India's freedom struggle. A laser show has also been proposed as part of the visitor experience.

The development plan is based on proposals and suggestions received from the chairman of the Mohobani Development Board and the district administration.

CM Raises Old Political Cases

The Keshpur programme also featured a political dimension, with Adhikari referring to alleged cases against BJP workers.

The Chief Minister claimed that several BJP workers had faced false cases for raising slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also alleged that party workers had faced difficulties while organising political meetings during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.

Adhikari asked the West Midnapore Superintendent of Police to examine such cases.

He said the administration should look into the old cases and take appropriate action according to the law.

Reference to 2024 Lok Sabha Election

Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Adhikari alleged that he had faced obstacles while trying to hold a political meeting in Keshpur.

He also referred to the limited attendance at the meeting and asked the district police administration to examine the case associated with the incident.

The allegations made by the Chief Minister are political claims and would need to be assessed against official records and investigation findings.

Adhikari visited Mohobani to pay tribute to Khudiram Bose on his death anniversary.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the Chief Minister, who was scheduled to travel by helicopter from East Midnapore, reportedly travelled by road from Kolaghat to Keshpur.

West Midnapore District Magistrate Bijin Krishna and Superintendent of Police Papia Sultana were also present during the programme.

Speaking about Khudiram Bose, Adhikari described himself as a son of undivided Midnapore and stressed the importance of remembering the revolutionary's contribution to India's freedom struggle.

Focus on Preserving Freedom Struggle History

The Chief Minister linked the proposed Khudiram Bose Keshpur development project to a broader effort to highlight the state's history of the freedom movement.

He criticised previous governments, alleging that adequate attention had not been given to freedom fighters and their legacy.
