In a significant push to strengthen India–Vietnam relations, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with the President of Vietnam, To Lam, and his delegation in Mumbai, emphasizing the state’s pivotal role in advancing bilateral economic and cultural ties.

Highlighting the recent upgrade in relations to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Fadnavis noted that Maharashtra is well-positioned to drive the next phase of growth between India and Vietnam. The discussions focused on deepening cooperation across sectors such as infrastructure, urban development, startups, and cultural exchange.
A key proposal included inviting Vietnamese investment to develop a Buddhist heritage circuit centered around the iconic Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, celebrating the shared civilizational and spiritual heritage between the two nations.
The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration between Mumbai and Ho Chi Minh City in smart cities, innovation ecosystems, and urban planning. Notably, Vingroup’s $6.5 billion investment in Maharashtra was highlighted as a milestone that has significantly strengthened economic engagement and opened new avenues for partnership.
Further boosting bilateral engagement, plans for an annual Maharashtra–Vietnam Business Summit were discussed to facilitate strategic partnerships and sustained economic dialogue.
Fadnavis expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fostering a robust platform that continues to enhance ties between Maharashtra and Vietnam. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to expanding collaboration across culture, commerce, and people-to-people connections.
