Mamata Pays Tribute to Netaji, Condemns BJP Remarks

Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and criticised the BJP over what she described as insulting remarks against the freedom fighter.

Speaking after paying tribute at the statue of Netaji, Banerjee called Subhas Chandra Bose

“the tallest leader of our country” and said that those who fought for India’s freedom must never be forgotten.

“People of BJP are hurling abuses in the name of Subhas Chandra Bose and insulting him. We do not like it. We condemn this,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Banerjee said she and her supporters had paid tribute to Netaji, chanted “Jai Hind” and sung patriotic songs. She added that her party would continue to stand up for those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

“We will continue to fight for those who fought for the country, even if that affects our lives,” she said, stressing that the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle would not be forgotten.

Banerjee also paid tribute to several prominent national figures, including Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rabindranath Tagore, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Guru Gobind Singh.
She further said that such tribute programmes were not organised merely for publicity but came from a sense of genuine respect.
“We do not organise programs just for show off but we think from the heart,” Banerjee said, concluding with the patriotic slogan, “Saare jahan se achha, Hindustan hamara.”
