Mamata Banerjee Refuses to Resign, Calls West Bengal Poll Verdict a ‘Conspiracy’ Against Democracy

In a strong and defiant statement, outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister and Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday rejected calls for her resignation following her party’s defeat in the state assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress (All India Trinamool Congress) chief alleged that the election outcome was not a true reflection of the people’s mandate but the result of a “well-orchestrated conspiracy.”

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Banerjee asserted that stepping down was “out of the question,” emphasizing that her party had not been defeated by voters but by systemic manipulation.

“The question of my resignation does not arise, as we were defeated not by a public mandate but by a conspiracy… I did not lose; I will not go to Lok Bhavan,” she stated.

Banerjee further alleged that her party’s real contest was not against the Bharatiya Janata Party, but against the Election Commission of India, which she accused of functioning in favor of the BJP.

Raising serious concerns over the integrity of the electoral process, the TMC supremo claimed widespread irregularities during vote counting. She alleged that results in nearly 100 constituencies were “manipulated” and that counting procedures were deliberately slowed down to weaken her party’s morale.

Calling the developments a “black chapter in history,” Banerjee also directly criticized Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of undermining democratic principles and the rights of the electorate.

The statements signal a potential political confrontation in the days ahead, as the TMC weighs its next course of action amid escalating tensions over the credibility of the electoral process.
