West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), questioning its role in governance and national security while addressing supporters in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
Banerjee raised concerns over the Centre’s handling of the recent Pahalgam incident, alleging lapses in security preparedness. She questioned why reinforcements were not deployed in time, claiming there was an absence of adequate police presence during the attack.
Taking aim at BJP’s political approach in West Bengal, Banerjee asked whether the party should dictate how Bengal functions. She argued that the focus should instead be on addressing governance challenges in regions under BJP’s control.
Her remarks come amid intensifying political exchanges between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP ahead of crucial electoral developments in the state.
Banerjee also accused central agencies and the Union government of selectively targeting TMC leaders and workers. She alleged that enforcement actions were politically motivated and aimed at weakening her party’s grassroots presence.
In a softer tone, the Chief Minister addressed security personnel deployed in the state, saying they would be treated with respect and care. She emphasized that political differences should not affect humanitarian values.
With West Bengal’s political landscape heating up, Banerjee’s remarks underline the sharpening contest between TMC and BJP. The exchange of strong statements from both sides signals an increasingly intense campaign narrative in the state.
