Manipur Census 2027 has been deferred following a decision taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Union Home Ministry, BJP MP Sambit Patra said. The announcement comes after people in Manipur had demanded that the census exercise in the state be postponed.

Patra welcomed the decision, saying the central government has a special place for Manipur and that the move was in line with the concerns raised by people in the state.

According to Patra, the decision was taken in the presence of Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the Governor of Manipur during a high-level meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Manipur Census 2027 Deferred After State's Demand

The decision to defer the Manipur Census 2027 follows a demand from people in the state that the census exercise should be postponed.

Speaking about the development, Sambit Patra said the central government had taken the concerns of Manipur into consideration. He expressed gratitude to the Union Home Minister for convening a high-level meeting to discuss the issue.

Patra said the decision was subsequently taken to defer the census in Manipur.

Sambit Patra Welcomes Census Decision

Patra described the decision as welcome and said it reflected the Centre's consideration of the concerns raised by the people of Manipur.

The BJP MP emphasised that the demand to defer the census was the first major issue raised in connection with the exercise and said that this demand had now been met.

The development is expected to have significance for administrative and demographic processes in the state, particularly given the sensitivities surrounding population data in Manipur.

High-Level Meeting Held on Manipur Census

According to Sambit Patra, the decision on the Manipur Census 2027 was taken during a high-level meeting involving senior authorities.

The meeting was held in the presence of Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the Governor of Manipur. Patra said the Union Home Minister conveyed the meeting to consider the concerns surrounding the census.
