Marco Rubio Says India-US Trade Agreement Is Very Close to Finalisation
India-US Trade Agreement Nears Completion, Says Marco Rubio
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed optimism about the early conclusion of the proposed India-US trade agreement, saying that both sides are very close to finalising the deal.
Speaking during his visit to India, Rubio said only a small number of issues remained to be resolved before the agreement could be executed. He indicated that an announcement could come shortly, followed by the signing of the agreement.
“ We're very, very close. I would say we're about as close as you can be without having executed the agreement,” Rubio said.
The US Secretary of State clarified that the State Department does not directly negotiate trade agreements but remains closely involved in the discussions. He added that he and his counterpart, the National Security Advisor, attach considerable importance to the ongoing negotiations.
Rubio said the two sides were working to wrap up the remaining issues and expressed confidence that an agreement could be put in place soon.
“We're very optimistic that we will have something in place here very soon,” he said.
His remarks signal positive momentum in India-US economic engagement, with the proposed trade agreement expected to strengthen bilateral commercial ties if finalised. However, the agreement has not yet been formally concluded, and its signing remains subject to the resolution of outstanding issues.
