Sharing details of the visit on social media, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor highlighted the sharp increase in India's imports of American liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and Reliance Industries' proposed investment in a new oil refinery in the United States.
“Over the past year, India’s imports of U.S. LPG have surged from under 10% to 67%, making the United States India’s largest LPG supplier. Reliance’s planned investment in the first new U.S. oil refinery in 50 years is another major opportunity to expand American energy production and create jobs,” Gor stated.
The remarks underline the growing importance of energy trade in India-US economic relations. The increased supply of American LPG to India reflects a significant shift in energy sourcing, while Reliance's proposed US refinery investment could open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
The planned investment is also expected to support the expansion of American energy production and employment opportunities, according to the US ambassador.
Rubio's visit to Reliance's Jamnagar facilities brings attention to the role of major private-sector investments and energy partnerships in strengthening commercial ties between the two countries.
As India and the United States explore further opportunities for cooperation, energy trade and investment remain important areas of their broader economic engagement.
