Maxi Araujo Strikes Late as Uruguay Rescue Point Against Saudi Arabia
Maxi Araujo's late equaliser cancelled out Abdulelah Al Amri's first-half strike as Uruguay and Saudi Arabia shared a point each in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H match in Miami.
The Saudis went ahead in the 41st minute as Uruguay keeper Fernando Muslera's initial save to a header allowed Al Amri to convert the rebound.
Uruguay stepped up their search for an equaliser in the second half and their pressure finally paid off with 10 minutes of normal time remaining. Vinas's header was too hot for Owais to handle, and Araujo was on hand to bury the follow-up.
Uruguay pushed for a late winner, but Saudi Arabia held on for a point, leaving all four Group H teams level following World Cup debutants Cabo Verde's shock goalless draw with Spain.
At 39 years and 364 days, keeper Muslera became the oldest player to represent Uruguay in the tournament, surpassing Diego Godin's previous record by more than three years
