MEA on Pakistan Reward for Masood Azhar: India Responds
KT- MEA on Pakistan Reward for Masood Azhar

MEA on Pakistan Reward for Masood Azhar has come into focus after India strongly criticised Pakistan over its reported announcement offering a reward linked to the arrest of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described such announcements as “gimmicks” and “phony announcements”, stressing that Pakistan needs to demonstrate concrete action rather than make public declarations.

The MEA's response comes amid continued concerns over terrorism and the presence of individuals accused of involvement in terrorist activities. India has repeatedly maintained that meaningful action against terrorism requires credible and verifiable steps rather than announcements that do not translate into action on the ground.

MEA Criticises Pakistan's Announcement

The MEA on Pakistan Reward for Masood Azhar said that Pakistan's reported reward announcement does not address India's concerns regarding terrorism. Instead, India described the move as an attempt that lacks credibility unless accompanied by genuine action.

According to the MEA, Pakistan must move beyond what India characterised as symbolic or publicity-oriented announcements. The Indian government has called for concrete steps against individuals and organisations associated with terrorism.

The comments reflect India's longstanding position that countries must take effective action against terrorist networks operating from their territories and prevent their territory from being used for activities directed against other nations.

India Calls for Concrete Action

India's message was direct: Pakistan must take concrete action.

The MEA indicated that announcements alone cannot be considered sufficient when it comes to addressing terrorism. New Delhi's position is that Pakistan needs to demonstrate through actual measures that it is serious about dealing with terrorist groups and individuals.

The emphasis on “concrete action” is significant because India has consistently raised concerns about terrorism emanating from Pakistani territory.

Indian officials have repeatedly stressed the importance of accountability and effective enforcement against those accused of involvement in terror-related activities.

Who Is Masood Azhar?

Masood Azhar is the founder and chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), an organisation that India has identified as a major terrorist group. His name has been associated with several major terror-related cases and attacks involving India.

Azhar has remained a prominent figure in India's concerns over cross-border terrorism. His organisation has been accused by Indian authorities of involvement in terrorist activities targeting India.
