Mirabai Chanu Credits Discipline Behind CWG Gold

Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu added another golden chapter to Indian weightlifting history by winning the women's 48kg gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

The Indian star delivered another remarkable performance to secure her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, reaffirming her dominance on the international stage and strengthening her legacy as one of India's greatest weightlifters.

Speaking after her victory, Mirabai revealed that she and her team had initially not planned to push too hard at the Games. However, after failing her opening attempt, they reassessed their approach.

"We were not going to put in so much effort in these Games, but my first attempt, which failed, was because of my own mistake. So we thought... But we also had to see what was going on in training and what more improvements were needed. So, I feel this performance is very important for me because I have controlled my body weight for a long time, and bringing it down to 48kg is very difficult for me," Mirabai Chanu said.

Mirabai's triumph highlights not only her exceptional lifting ability but also the immense discipline required to maintain competition weight while performing at the highest level. Her latest Commonwealth Games gold further cements her status as an icon of Indian sport.
