First Innings: Kartik Sharma and Shivam Dube Resurrect CSK

After Akash Singh’s Powerplay Blows
After being asked to bat first by LSG captain Rishabh Pant, Chennai Super Kings got off to a rocky start. Left-arm pacer Akash Singh tore through the visitor’s top order with exceptional swing and precision, sending back high-profile stars Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson early, leaving CSK in hot water. Akash finished his spectacular four-over spell with brilliant figures of 3 for 26.

However, young sensation Kartik Sharma stabilized the ship. Stepping up under immense pressure, Kartik anchored the middle order with a calculated yet highly aggressive 71 off 42 balls, punctuated by six boundaries and five towering sixes. He stitched together a vital 70-run partnership with Dewald Brevis to breathe life back into the Chennai dugout.

Once Kartik was dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed in the 16th over, Shivam Dube provided the late fireworks. Dube smashed a quickfire 32 off just 16 deliveries*, punishing Prince Yadav in the final over to push Chennai to a highly competitive total of 187/5.

Second Innings: The Mitchell Marsh Storm Blows CSK Away

If CSK thought they had a fighting total on a usually balanced Ekana surface, Mitchell Marsh had completely different plans. Opening the innings alongside fellow countryman Josh Inglis, Marsh turned the match into an absolute exhibition of power-hitting.

Marsh reached his half-century in just 21 deliveries and did not slow down, single-handedly turning the run chase into a cakewalk. The defining moment of the chase came when Marsh completely dismantled Anshul Kamboj, smashing him for four consecutive sixes and a boundary in a brutal 28-run over.

Key Partnership: Mitchell Marsh (90 off 38) and Josh Inglis (36 off 32) put on a breathtaking 135-run opening stand that essentially put the game to bed within the first 12 overs.

Marsh was unfortunately run out for 90—missing a well-deserved century when a straight drive from Nicholas Pooran deflected off the bowler Mukesh Choudhary’s fingers into the non-striker’s stumps. Despite a mini-collapse that saw Inglis and Abdul Samad exit in quick succession, Nicholas Pooran (who hit three consecutive sixes off Kamboj in the 17th over) and Mukul Choudhary finished things off in style. LSG reached 188/3 in a mere 16.4 overs.

Turning Point of the Match

While Kartik Sharma’s gritty 71 put CSK in a position of strength, the powerplay batting by LSG completely took the game away from Chennai. Scoring 86 runs in the first 6 overs, Marsh and Inglis ensured that the required run-rate never became a factor, leaving the CSK bowlers with zero room for error on a night they would quickly like to forget.
