Mithun Highlights Large Festive Turnout
Speaking in Kolkata, Chakraborty said:
“The Bengal of today is a free Bengal. Everyone is coming here happily to witness the festivities.”
He pointed to the large crowds attending festive programmes as evidence of what he described as a changed atmosphere in the state.
He added:
“This huge presence here is proof enough that a fear-free Bengal has truly arrived.”
The description of Bengal as “fear-free” reflects Chakraborty’s political and personal assessment of the current situation.
Newly Appointed Cultural Advisor
Chakraborty’s comments come only days after the West Bengal government formally appointed him as cultural advisor in the Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
The appointment was made with immediate effect and carries Cabinet Minister rank.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had earlier announced that Chakraborty would be given the role as part of the state government’s efforts to promote Bengal’s cultural and film sectors.
Focus on Culture and Tourism
Since taking up the advisory role, Chakraborty has said he intends to work on cultural and tourism-related initiatives across West Bengal.
In a recent interview, he said he was travelling across the state to identify locations that could be developed for tourism and that he would remain available to the government whenever required.
Festive Season Brings Large Crowds to Kolkata
The Mithun Chakraborty fear-free Bengal statement came during a period of heavy festive activity in Kolkata, with large numbers of people participating in Mahalaya events and preparations ahead of Durga Puja.
Chakraborty said the visible public participation and arrival of visitors reflected confidence among people taking part in the celebrations.
His remarks also underline the cultural emphasis of his new advisory role, which is expected to focus on Bengal’s heritage, tourism and film sectors.
