Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja 2026 Unveils ‘Ancient Ram Mandir’ Theme
Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja 2026 has entered its 58th year with the theme “Ancient Ram Mandir”, presenting an elaborate artistic interpretation of traditional temple architecture and India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Organised by the Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park, the puja is located near MG Road Metro Station in Central Kolkata and is expected to draw large numbers of devotees and pandal-hoppers during Durga Puja.

‘Ancient Ram Mandir’ Brings Temple Architecture to Life
This year’s theme draws inspiration from ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shri Ram.
The pandal has been designed to recreate the grandeur of traditional temple architecture while incorporating visual storytelling based on significant episodes from the Ramayana and the life of Lord Ram.
The organisers aim to create an immersive experience in which visitors move through a space that combines devotional symbolism with detailed craftsmanship.

Plywood and Bamboo Shape the Pandal
The pandal is being created under the supervision of artist Chiranjib, with plywood and bamboo forming the primary structural materials.
Through intricate detailing, these materials are being transformed into a temple-inspired installation with architectural features designed to evoke an ancient sacred complex.
Scenes connected with the Ramayana form an integral part of the artistic presentation, adding a narrative dimension to the pandal.

Traditional Durga Idol With Stone and Marble Finish
Renowned idol artist Kush Bera has created the Goddess Durga idol in a traditional style.
The idol features a stone-coloured appearance and marble-like finish, designed to resemble sculptures found within ancient temples.
This visual treatment allows the idol to blend naturally with the architectural theme and strengthens the overall sense of heritage and spirituality.

Ganesh Mondal Designs Elaborate Illumination
Lighting artist Ganesh Mondal has developed the illumination for the pandal.
The lighting has been planned to highlight architectural details, sculptures and thematic elements while creating a spiritually evocative atmosphere.
The organisers expect the evening illumination to play a major role in transforming the installation and enhancing the visitor experience.

Tapas Roy Attends Inauguration
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Tapas Roy, Minister of Commerce and Industries, Government of West Bengal, along with former councillor Meena Devi Purohit, social worker and association vice-chairman Binay Dubey, and other guests and club members.
The event formally marked the beginning of the committee’s 58th-year celebrations.
‘A Tribute to India’s Architectural Heritage’
Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park General Secretary Surendra Kumar Sharma said the theme was conceived as a tribute to India’s architectural, cultural and spiritual legacy.
He said:
“Our theme, ‘Ancient Ram Mandir’, is a tribute to India’s glorious architectural heritage, rich cultural traditions and spiritual legacy.”
Sharma added that the organisers wanted to blend devotion with artistic excellence while preserving the traditional spirit of Durga Puja.
Organisers Expect Heavy Footfall
The committee is preparing for significant visitor turnout during the festive period.
Its Central Kolkata location, temple-inspired design, traditional idol and elaborate lighting are expected to make the puja a prominent destination for pandal-hoppers.
The organisers have also emphasised providing visitors with a safe and comfortable experience throughout the celebrations.
58 Years of Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja
Established in 1969, the Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park has become one of Central Kolkata’s recognised Durga Puja organisers.
Over the years, the association has built a reputation for large-scale installations, thematic presentations and community celebrations.
With “Ancient Ram Mandir”, Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja 2026 continues that tradition by bringing together devotion, mythology, heritage, craftsmanship and lighting in a single visual experience.
