India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a key bilateral meeting with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič on the sidelines of the WTO Ministerial Conference 14, signaling renewed momentum in India–EU trade relations. During the discussions, both leaders deliberated on critical priorities under the MC14 agenda, focusing on strengthening global trade frameworks and addressing evolving economic challenges. The meeting also reviewed significant progress in negotiations toward the much-anticipated India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The FTA initiative had been formally announced earlier in January 2026 in New Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, marking a pivotal step in enhancing bilateral cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of accelerating negotiations and exploring new avenues to deepen economic engagement, boost investments, and enhance market access. The discussions also touched upon expanding collaboration in strategic sectors, ensuring resilient supply chains, and promoting sustainable economic growth. The meeting reflects India and the European Union’s shared commitment to building a robust and future-ready trade partnership amid shifting global economic dynamics.
