Piyush Goyal Slams Rahul Gandhi Over President Murmu Remarks
Piyush Goyal Rahul Gandhi remarks triggered a fresh political exchange on Saturday, with the Union Commerce and Industry Minister accusing the Congress leader of showing disrespect towards President Droupadi Murmu and other constitutional authorities.
Goyal’s criticism followed remarks made by Rahul Gandhi after an Opposition delegation met President Murmu over alleged electoral irregularities. Gandhi said he had expected the President to deny the Opposition’s allegations but claimed she instead asked the delegation to provide evidence.
It is a matter of shame that Mr. Rahul Gandhi has no respect for any constitutional authority of India. His sheer ignorance and lack of common sense are appalling. I strongly condemn Mr. Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition members for their misbehaviour towards the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji.

Goyal Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Disrespect
In a post and subsequent remarks, Goyal said:
“It is a matter of shame that Mr. Rahul Gandhi has no respect for any constitutional authority of India.”
He also accused Gandhi of displaying what he described as ignorance of constitutional responsibilities and condemned what he called the Opposition’s “misbehaviour” towards President Murmu.
Those descriptions are Goyal’s political characterisations of Gandhi’s conduct.
Goyal Questions Evidence Behind Opposition Claims
Goyal also questioned whether Gandhi and the Opposition delegation had presented supporting evidence for their allegations during the meeting with the President.
He said the representation submitted to President Murmu contained no data, facts, figures or proof backing the allegations and argued that the delegation should have brought evidence when seeking presidential intervention.
Rahul Gandhi Says President Asked for Proof
Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, said after the meeting that he had expected President Murmu to reject the Opposition’s allegations regarding alleged “vote chori”.
According to Gandhi, the President did not reject the claims but instead asked the delegation to provide evidence. That is Gandhi’s account of the meeting.
Reports citing sources close to the President subsequently disputed Gandhi’s interpretation of the meeting, adding another layer to the political controversy.
Opposition Raises Election Commission Concerns
The meeting with President Murmu came amid continuing protests by Congress and other INDIA bloc parties over the functioning of the Election Commission and revisions to electoral rolls.
Opposition parties have alleged that voter-list changes were politically motivated, while the Election Commission and BJP have denied wrongdoing and maintained that the revision process is part of electoral-roll verification.
BJP Intensifies Attack on Rahul Gandhi
The Piyush Goyal Rahul Gandhi exchange is part of a wider BJP offensive following Gandhi’s comments about his meeting with the President.
Several BJP leaders have accused the Congress leader of dragging a constitutional office into a political dispute, while the Opposition continues to press its allegations concerning electoral integrity.
The disagreement now centres not only on the Election Commission but also on competing accounts of what transpired during the Opposition delegation’s meeting with President Murmu.
