PM Modi Says Science and Technology Are Transforming Indian Agriculture
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the government had increasingly integrated science and technology into agriculture and animal husbandry over the past 12 years, while addressing a public gathering in Banaskantha, Gujarat.
Modi said modern agricultural practices, improved seed varieties and scientific livestock breeding were helping farmers deal with challenges such as soil health, productivity and changing weather conditions.
His remarks came during a two-day Gujarat visit in which he inaugurated and launched development projects worth more than ₹14,000 crore in Banaskantha and released the 24th instalment of PM-KISAN.
‘Agriculture Is Our Culture,’ Says Modi
Addressing farmers, Modi said:
“Agriculture is our culture.”
He said technological advances had been introduced into both crop farming and animal husbandry to improve productivity and provide farmers with better information.
The Prime Minister identified the Soil Health Card scheme as one example of the government’s effort to bring scientific methods into farming.
Over 26 Crore Soil Health Cards Issued
Modi said farmers had previously faced difficulty determining which fertilisers were required for their fields and in what quantities.
He said Soil Health Cards had helped address this by providing information about soil nutrients and crop-specific fertiliser recommendations.
Official government data show that more than 26 crore Soil Health Cards have been issued nationwide. The Agriculture Ministry reported 26.18 crore cards generated as of August 2026.
Climate-Resilient Seeds in Focus
The Prime Minister also highlighted the challenge posed by changing weather patterns.
He said the government had focused on ensuring that farmers had access to improved seed varieties suited to evolving climatic conditions.
According to Modi, nearly 3,000 new seed varieties had been made available to farmers over recent years, helping agriculture adapt to climate and productivity challenges.
Science and Technology in Animal Husbandry
Modi said animal husbandry remained an important part of the rural economy, particularly for women.
He argued that improvements in livestock breeding and reproductive technology could increase milk production and strengthen rural incomes.
During his Banaskantha visit, Modi also dedicated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre at Bhildi, a 127-acre facility focused on genetic improvement and advanced reproductive technologies in cattle.
Dairy Sector Gets Technology Push
The Prime Minister said science and technology had increasingly been incorporated into India’s dairy sector over the past decade.
He linked better livestock breeds with higher milk productivity and said modern breeding techniques could support farmers and dairy cooperatives.
The Banaskantha programme also included projects linked to Banas Dairy, including plans for new Bio-CNG facilities.
PM-KISAN 24th Instalment Released
At the same event, Modi released the 24th instalment of PM-KISAN, transferring around ₹19,000 crore to more than 9.34 crore eligible farmer families across the country.
The scheme provides eligible landholding farmer families with ₹6,000 annually through direct benefit transfer.
The PM Modi agriculture technology remarks therefore placed soil management, improved seeds, scientific livestock breeding and digital support at the centre of the government’s agricultural modernisation strategy.
