PM Modi Inaugurates CG Semi OSAT Facility in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, describing it as a landmark achievement in India's rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the new facility is expected to manufacture 20 crore semiconductor chips annually, with plans to scale up production to 500 crore chips every year, equivalent to more than 1.5 crore chips per day.

Expressing confidence in the company's vision, PM Modi said the Semicon India programme is progressing steadily and transforming India's semiconductor landscape "step by step, brick by brick, and now, chip by chip." He congratulated the CG Semi team, the Gujarat government, and the people of India on the milestone.
Reflecting on his long-term vision, the Prime Minister revealed that he had prepared a comprehensive plan to establish a semiconductor plant in Gujarat nearly two decades ago. He said land had been identified and discussions were held with several companies, but the project could not move forward due to a lack of support at the national level at the time.
PM Modi recalled that semiconductor manufacturing was hardly discussed in India back then, and his vision was often met with scepticism. Seeing that dream now becoming a reality, he said, brings him "immense joy" and reinforces confidence in India's emergence as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.
The inauguration of the CG Semi OSAT facility marks another significant step in India's push to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing, reduce import dependence, and position the country as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
