PM Modi Showcases Lakadong Turmeric at G7 Summit

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showcasing Meghalaya's renowned GI-tagged Lakadong Turmeric on the global stage during the G7 Summit.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, Scindia described Lakadong Turmeric as India's "golden ambassador of wellness" and expressed pride that it was among the gifts presented by Prime Minister Modi to world leaders attending the summit.

Lakadong Turmeric, grown primarily in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, is globally recognized for its exceptionally high curcumin content, a compound known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

The turmeric variety has earned a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, highlighting its unique quality and regional significance.

Scindia noted that Prime Minister Modi's gesture has brought international attention to Meghalaya's agricultural excellence and India's rich tradition of natural wellness. He added that Lakadong Turmeric is poised to become Meghalaya's signature product and a key symbol of the state's growing presence in global markets.

The Union Minister said the recognition is a matter of immense pride for Meghalaya, its farmers, and the nation, as India continues to promote indigenous products and traditional wellness practices worldwide.

The global spotlight on Lakadong Turmeric is expected to boost awareness, demand, and export opportunities for the premium spice, further strengthening the livelihoods of farmers in the Northeast.
