PM Modi Meets Iran President Pezeshkian at BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, continuing discussions from their earlier meeting on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek.

From Bishkek to Delhi, the productive discussions continue.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi thanked President Pezeshkian for Iran’s active participation in BRICS-related meetings, including the BRICS Business Forum.

India Reiterates Call for Dialogue and Diplomacy

PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent position that conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of peaceful engagement and diplomatic efforts in addressing international disputes.

The discussions also focused on the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and commerce, particularly amid growing concerns over disruptions to international maritime routes.

Focus on Safety of Seafarers

Prime Minister Modi also underlined the need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of seafarers, highlighting the importance of secure maritime movement for global trade and commerce.

The meeting comes as India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit, providing an opportunity for leaders to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss regional and global developments.
India and Iran share longstanding economic, connectivity and strategic ties, with both sides continuing to engage through bilateral and multilateral platforms, including BRICS.
