PM Modi Marks World Elephant Day, Hails India’s Conservation Efforts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked World Elephant Day, celebrating the majestic elephant as an integral part of India’s ecological heritage and highlighting the country’s efforts towards its long-term conservation.

In a social media post, PM Modi said it was “gladdening” that India is home to over 60% of the world’s wild Asian elephants.
He highlighted that India has 33 Elephant Reserves, which provide important habitats for elephants and strengthen conservation efforts across the country.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of forest personnel, scientists, veterinarians, mahouts and local communities, describing them as integral to elephant conservation efforts.

World Elephant Day is observed annually to raise awareness about elephant conservation, habitat protection and the challenges faced by elephant populations. India, home to a significant share of the world’s Asian elephants, continues to focus on protecting elephant habitats and promoting coexistence between elephants and local communities.
