Priyank Kharge Challenges BJP Over Foreign Funding Allegations Against Congress
Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has challenged the BJP to provide evidence for its allegations that the Congress receives funding from foreign agencies, questioning the basis of the claims and the role of India's intelligence agencies.
Kharge criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and intelligence agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), over what he described as allegations made without supporting evidence.
Kharge Questions Evidence Behind BJP's Claims
Kharge said that if BJP leaders, including the Union Home Minister, were accusing the Congress of receiving foreign funding, they should produce documentary evidence to support their claims.
He questioned the competence of senior officials and asked what the IB and RAW were doing if such allegations were being made without evidence. He also sought clarity on the basis for the accusations.
The remarks came amid a political dispute over allegations of foreign funding involving political organisations. Kharge's comments reflected the Congress's demand for evidence and accountability from those making the claims.
Rahul Gandhi's Challenge for an Open Debate
Kharge referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's reported challenge for an open debate on foreign funding allegations. According to Kharge, Gandhi had called on those making the accusations to present their evidence publicly.
Kharge proposed that the discussion cover allegations concerning the Congress, the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He also suggested that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat moderate the debate.
Calling for an open discussion before the public and the press, Kharge said the parties should openly address questions about foreign funding rather than rely on political accusations.
PM Modi Also Asked to Respond
Kharge further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond to the issues raised during such a debate and justify the claims made by his side.
His remarks intensified the political exchange over allegations of foreign funding and the demand for transparency in political financing.
Political Debate Over Foreign Funding
Foreign funding allegations can carry significant political implications, making documentary evidence and official findings important in establishing the facts. Kharge's statement represents the Congress side of the dispute; the claims and counterclaims require verification through relevant evidence and official responses.
The BJP's response to Kharge's latest remarks was not included in the statement provided.
