Rahul Gandhi Sahil Wakode case: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke to the parents of deceased IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode and assured them of support in their efforts to seek justice for their son, according to party sources.

Gandhi spoke to Sahil’s parents, Ravindra and Sonali Wakode, through a video call on Thursday while they were travelling to Mumbai from Washim district. The conversation lasted nearly 17 minutes, during which Gandhi assured the family that he stood with them and would extend all possible help, the sources said.

The development comes as Sahil Wakode’s parents have announced an indefinite hunger strike outside the gates of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, seeking justice in connection with their son’s death.

According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi made a video call to Ravindra and Sonali Wakode while they were on their way to Mumbai.

During the call, Gandhi expressed his support to the grieving parents and assured them of assistance in their efforts to seek justice for Sahil.

Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and Maharashtra Youth Congress chief Shivraj More were reportedly present with Sahil’s parents when the conversation took place.

The call came at a time when the family is preparing to intensify its efforts over the circumstances surrounding Sahil's death.

Sahil Wakode’s Parents Announce Hunger Strike

Sahil Wakode’s parents have announced that they will begin an indefinite hunger strike outside the IIT Bombay gate from 11 am on Thursday.

The family has been demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances that preceded Sahil's death and has raised allegations of caste discrimination.

The case has drawn attention after Sahil, an IIT Bombay student, was found hanging in his hostel room on the evening of September 18.

IIT Bombay Student Death Case Under Investigation

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch is currently investigating Sahil Wakode’s death.

According to the reported details of the case, Sahil was allegedly caught using a mobile phone to access ChatGPT during a mid-semester examination. He was subsequently taken away from the examination hall by a professor.
