Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the PM reportedly urged citizens to reduce spending and consumption amid economic concerns.
Taking to social media, Rahul Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister’s remarks asking people to avoid buying gold, limit foreign travel, reduce petrol usage, cut down on fertilizer and cooking oil consumption, use public transport, and work from home.

Gandhi said these statements were “not sermons, but proofs of failure,” accusing the government of shifting responsibility onto ordinary citizens instead of taking accountability for economic challenges.
He further alleged that after 12 years in power, the government has pushed the country into a situation where citizens are being told “what to buy, what not to buy, where to go, and where not to go.”
In a strongly worded remark, Rahul Gandhi said governing the country was now “beyond the reach of a compromised Prime Minister,” escalating the political confrontation between the Congress and the BJP ahead of key political developments.
The remarks have triggered fresh political debate on inflation, fuel prices, household expenses, and the overall economic direction of the country.
