In a significant development in West Bengal politics, Rathindra Basu has been elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Representing the Cooch Behar South constituency as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Basu takes charge of the constitutional post for the first time following his maiden victory in the Assembly elections.
The election process was conducted on Friday morning under the supervision of Pro-tem Speaker Tapas Roy. Members of the House confirmed Rathindra Basu’s appointment through a voice vote, marking a smooth and unanimous selection process.
