Saibari screamer lifts Morocco over Scotland
Morocco claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Scotland in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C encounter, thanks to an early strike from Ismael Saibari that became the fastest goal of the tournament so far.
The Atlas Lions made a dream start as Saibari burst beyond the Scottish defense, controlled a perfectly weighted pass from Brahim Diaz, and fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Angus Gunn into the roof of the net.
The early breakthrough proved decisive as Morocco maintained their defensive discipline and controlled large portions of the match. The victory moves Morocco to four points from two games following their opening 1-1 draw against Brazil.
Saibari nearly doubled Morocco's lead after the break when his deflected effort crashed against the crossbar. Bilal El Khannouss also came close, narrowly missing from an Achraf Hakimi corner.
Scotland pushed hard for an equalizer in the closing stages, with John McGinn, Ben Doak, and Scott McTominay leading a series of attacks. The Scots were left frustrated after two strong penalty appeals were waved away by the referee.
Despite the late pressure, Morocco held firm to secure all three points and strengthen their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
