TMC Confirms Mamata as Chief Amid Leadership Row

Mamata Banerjee reasserted her position as Trinmool Congress chairperson while formally submitting a revised list of the party's office bearers to the Election Commission of India on Tuesday.

The latest development is being viewed as a strategic counter-move against a major internal rebellion led by West Bengal Assembly's Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, who held a parallel session in Kolkata to oust Mamata and appoint Arup Roy as the new chairperson while suspending MP Abhishek Banerjee from party leadership.

The top leadership positions of TMC as submitted to the ECI:

Chairperson: Mamata Banerjee
Vice-President: Subrata Bakshi
National General Secretary: Abhishek Banerjee

Joint Secretaries: Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen
Treasurer: Subhasish Chakraborty
West Bengal TMC President: Chandrima Bhattacharya
Leader of the West Bengal Assembly: Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay

The TMC is mirred in a bleeding internal rebellion after facing defeat to BJP in the 2026 Assembly polls.

The party's seat share dropped to 80 while Mamata herself lost to Suvendu Adhikari in the Bhabanipur constituency.

Ritabrata Banerjee lwd disssident group claims to have the backing of over 60 MLAs and MPs and is preparing to legally challenge Mamata's authority and demand the party's election symbol.
