Trump Calls for Gulf Investment Over US Security Role
US President Donald Trump has said that several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, are willing to make record-level investments in the United States.
Speaking on the issue of global maritime security, Trump said he had spoken with leaders from these countries, who expressed interest in increasing their investments in the US economy. He added that such investments would be preferable to imposing fees.
Trump also argued that while the United States continues to protect vital international shipping lanes used by countries around the world—including China—it is unfair for America to shoulder the burden without receiving compensation.
"I don't like the concept of a fee," Trump said. "But it's not fair that we're protecting this Strait for the entire world, for China and everyone. I don't mind protecting it for anybody, but it's unfair that we're not, in some way, compensated."
His remarks underscore his long-standing position that allies and beneficiaries of US security commitments should contribute more toward the costs of maintaining global stability and strategic trade routes.
