Vance Highlights Progress Despite Iran Tensions
U.S. Vice President JD Vance revealed that the Trump administration delivered a firm message to Iranian officials during ongoing negotiations, warning that President Donald Trump would not remain silent when Tehran makes what he described as inaccurate or provocative statements about the United States.
Speaking about the diplomatic discussions, Vance said the administration had informed Iran that public rhetoric aimed at the U.S. would be met with a response from President Trump.
“What we told the Iranians yesterday is when you guys engage in what us millennials might call trash talk, you can't expect the president of the United States not to respond and not to correct the record,” Vance said.
The vice president emphasized that both he and President Trump would challenge statements they believe are false or misleading during the negotiating process.
“When they say things that aren't true, the president is going to respond to it. I'm going to respond to it,” he added.
Despite moments of tension, Vance indicated that discussions between the two sides remained productive. He described the exchanges as involving “a little bit of threatening” and “a little bit of whining,” but stressed that negotiations continued and yielded meaningful progress.
“At the end of the day, the talks continued and we made great progress,” Vance said.
The remarks highlight the administration's approach of combining direct public messaging with diplomatic engagement as efforts continue to address key issues between Washington and Tehran. While details of the negotiations were not disclosed, Vance's comments suggest both sides remain engaged despite sharp rhetoric and political disagreements.
The latest exchange comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of U.S.-Iran relations, with observers closely watching whether the negotiations can produce a broader breakthrough on regional security and other long-standing disputes.
