9,000 Indians in Iran Amid West Asia Tensions: MEA Updates Evacuation Efforts

The Ministry of External Affairs revealed that approximately 9,000 Indian nationals remain in Iran, including students, seafarers, businesspeople, professionals, and pilgrims. Additional Secretary Randhir
Jaiswal noted many—especially students—have returned home per earlier advisories, while others were relocated from Tehran to safer areas.

The government is facilitating exits via land borders into Azerbaijan and Armenia for commercial flights home. EAM S Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister have held three recent talks prioritizing shipping safety and India’s energy security.
