Bangladesh registered a historic win over the reigning World Test Champions New Zealand by 8 wickets on Wednesday at Mount Maunganui in the first test match between the two countries.

The victory came with a career best 6-46 performance by fast bowler Ebadot Hossain giving Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the 2-test series.

This is the first test win of Bangladesh over a team ranked in the top 5 in the world. New Zealand had remained unbeaten in the last 17 matches played against Bangladesh. Counting all formats of the game, New Zealand had remained unbeaten over the last 33 matches against Bangladesh.
New Zealand had scored 328 runs in the first innings against which Bangladesh took a lead of 130 runs scoring 458 runs. In the second innings, Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain gave a superb performance snapping 6 wickets for 46 runs, limiting New Zealand to a modest score of 169 runs.
Bangladesh required to score 40 runs to win the match which they did with 8 wickets in hand to wrap up the match with an emphatic victory.
New Zealand Captain Tom Latham admitted that Bangladesh put up a classy show in the test match. He said that Bangladesh dominated them in all departments of the game.
