Marta Kostyuk etched her name into the history books on Saturday, delivering a masterclass in poise and precision to defeat rising star Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the 2026 Madrid Open.

​The victory marks the world number 23’s first-ever WTA 1000 level trophy and her second title of a breakout 2026 season. Entering the tournament as the No. 26 seed, Kostyuk’s underdog run culminated in an 81-minute battle on the clay of the Manolo Santana Centre Court, extending her current winning streak on the surface to 11 matches.
​First Set: Kostyuk Sets the Tone
​From the opening serve, Kostyuk looked the more comfortable of the two finalists. Utilizing her aggressive baseline game, she consistently pushed the 19-year-old Andreeva behind the baseline.
​The Ukrainian broke early and maintained a high first-serve win percentage of 75%, leaving little room for Andreeva to find a rhythm. Despite a few flashes of brilliance from the world No. 8, Kostyuk closed out the opening set 6-3 with a confident display of variety, including four well-timed aces.
Second Set: A Battle of Nerves
​The second set saw the tension rise as the Madrid sun dipped. Andreeva, appearing in her first WTA 1000 final, showed the resilience that has made her a top-10 mainstay, fighting back from an early break to level the set at 5-5.
​However, the experience of the 23-year-old Kostyuk proved decisive. In the 11th game, Kostyuk manufactured a critical break point with a searing cross-court forehand, eventually forcing an error from Andreeva. Serving for the championship, Kostyuk remained cool under pressure, sealing the match and the title on her first match point.
​With this victory, Kostyuk is projected to break into the top 15 of the WTA rankings on Monday, marking a career-high. For Andreeva, the runner-up finish further solidifies her status as one of the most dominant young forces on the tour as the season shifts toward Roland Garros.
