Nearly 90 per cent voter turnout was recorded during the re-polling held on Sunday across 15 polling booths in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The affected booths included 11 polling stations in the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency and four in the Diamond Harbour seat. Re-polling remained largely peaceful across both constituencies, with voters turning out in significant numbers to exercise their franchise.
The re-poll was ordered by the Election Commission of India following reports of electoral irregularities submitted by Returning Officers and election observers. These booths had originally gone to polls on April 29 during the second phase of the Assembly elections in the state.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes for the Assembly elections across multiple states and a Union Territory will take place on Monday. The states include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Polling for all 126 Assembly seats in Assam, 140 seats in Kerala, and 30 seats in Puducherry was conducted on April 9. In Tamil Nadu, voting for all 234 Assembly constituencies took place on April 23.
In West Bengal, polling was conducted in two phases — the first phase covering 152 seats was held on April 23, while the second phase for 142 constituencies took place on April 29.
With counting set to begin, all eyes are now on the results, which will determine the political landscape across these key regions.
