The victory marks the world number 23’s first-ever WTA 1000 level trophy and her second title of a breakout 2026 season. Entering the tournament as the No. 26 seed, Kostyuk’s underdog run culminated in an 81-minute battle on the clay of the Manolo Santana Centre Court, extending her current winning streak on the surface to 11 matches.
First Set: Kostyuk Sets the Tone
From the opening serve, Kostyuk looked the more comfortable of the two finalists. Utilizing her aggressive baseline game, she consistently pushed the 19-year-old Andreeva behind the baseline.
The Ukrainian broke early and maintained a high first-serve win percentage of 75%, leaving little room for Andreeva to find a rhythm. Despite a few flashes of brilliance from the world No. 8, Kostyuk closed out the opening set 6-3 with a confident display of variety, including four well-timed aces.
Second Set: A Battle of Nerves
The second set saw the tension rise as the Madrid sun dipped. Andreeva, appearing in her first WTA 1000 final, showed the resilience that has made her a top-10 mainstay, fighting back from an early break to level the set at 5-5.
However, the experience of the 23-year-old Kostyuk proved decisive. In the 11th game, Kostyuk manufactured a critical break point with a searing cross-court forehand, eventually forcing an error from Andreeva. Serving for the championship, Kostyuk remained cool under pressure, sealing the match and the title on her first match point.
With this victory, Kostyuk is projected to break into the top 15 of the WTA rankings on Monday, marking a career-high. For Andreeva, the runner-up finish further solidifies her status as one of the most dominant young forces on the tour as the season shifts toward Roland Garros.

The Champion’s Reaction
”It feels surreal,” Kostyuk said during the trophy ceremony. “I’ve worked so hard for a moment like this. To win my first 1000-level title here in Madrid, in front of this amazing crowd, is something I will never forget. Mirra is an incredible player, and I know we will have many more battles in the future.”
