The 11-member Indian delegation, led by I&B Minister Anurag Thakur, walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival’s opening ceremony in France. The Marche du Film, the corporate equivalent to the main event, has designated India as the ‘nation of honour.’ Deepika Padukone, who is a jury member for the 75th Cannes Film Festival, wears a Sabyasachi sari on the red carpet. The team included ambassadors from regional theatres, delivering a message to the globe that India, which has 25 regional film industries, has a wide range of flavours and styles to offer in terms of film production.
Deepika Padukone wore stripes that were block printed and hand embroidered by some of India’s most skilled artisans.
India is also a ‘nation of honour’ during ‘Cannes Next,’ where five new businesses will get the chance to pitch to the audiovisual sector.
Padukone wore the sari for the second time at the Cannes Film Festival, after a photocall with the rest of the jury members earlier in the day.
