External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday welcomed foreign ministers and delegates attending the BRICS India 2026 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, emphasizing the urgent need for global cooperation amid rising geopolitical and economic uncertainties.
In a post shared on social media, Dr Jaishankar said the world is facing increasingly complex challenges that are severely impacting emerging markets and developing nations. He highlighted the importance of collective action on energy, food, fertiliser, and health security while stressing the need for safe and unimpeded maritime trade routes crucial for global economic stability.

The External Affairs Minister also underlined the importance of strengthening reliable supply chains, diversifying markets for economic resilience, and addressing climate change while respecting the principles of equity and “common but differentiated responsibilities.”
Dr Jaishankar further emphasized leveraging technology for inclusive growth and good governance, while ensuring transparency, trust, and equitable access. He also called for stronger international cooperation against terrorism and reiterated India’s support for dialogue and diplomacy to address global peace and security challenges.
A major focus of his remarks was reforming multilateral institutions, including comprehensive reforms in the United Nations Security Council across both permanent and non-permanent categories.
Highlighting India’s vision for its BRICS Chairship in 2026, Dr Jaishankar stated that the grouping aims to build resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability to create a more stable, equitable, and inclusive international order.
